Ramen 101

A hot bowl of ramen is not only comforting and filling, it’s incredibly customizable and easy to make at home. With just a few ingredients, you can whip up an amazingly satisfying meal for yourself or even the entire family in less than 30 minutes! You can customize the flavors and add any kind of meat or vegetables you’d like. You can also use different broths, from classic chicken to veg-friendly mushroom. Then there are the toppings, like chashu pork (braised pork belly), soft-boiled eggs, nori seaweed, and menma bamboo shoots, to name just a few. These toppings provide texture and flavor, adding depth to your bowl of ramen.

There are many different broths that can be used in ramen, with each one having its own unique flavors and character. Shio (Salt) ramen broths are light and typically made from a mix of dashi, chicken stock, salt, and kombu. Shoyu (Soy Sauce) ramen broths are more salty than shio ramen, and they’re often paired with chicken or fish. Miso ramen broth is a more recent addition to the world of ramen, and it creates a very distinct flavour that’s not like either shio or shoyu ramen.

Another important factor in the flavour of ramen is its aroma oil, which is often a mixture of animal fats, vegetable oils, or sesame seed oil. The aroma oil adds richness, depth, and flavour to the ramen.

The noodles are the base of ramen, and they’re usually made from a thin wheat flour or buckwheat flour that has been kneaded with water. There are many different shapes and sizes of noodles available, and the specific types vary depending on region and personal preference.

There are also several different methods for preparing the noodles, from boiling them straight to pan-frying them. The most common way is to cook them in the ramen broth, which helps to give them a nice chewiness and a golden brown colour. Then they can be drained and tossed with some soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and/or sesame seeds for added flavour and texture.

The last step in making ramen is to add the togel hongkong toppings, which can be anything from a slice of chashu pork to a hard-boiled egg to marinated nori seaweed to menma bamboo shoots. You can also top your ramen with crushed red pepper flakes, which are a traditional Japanese ingredient that’s very popular in ramen. Some people love to drizzle in extra sriracha for an extra punch of heat, but it’s completely up to you how spicy you want your ramen to be.
